4-H Nelson County

 DOG SHOW

 

 

FRIDAY, JULY 9...7:00 PM

 

Judging starts at 6:30 p.m.

$5.00 parking fee.

The following classes will be offered

at the 4-H Dog Show July 9:

 

TRICK CLASS

Owner will be allowed to have their dog

perform one trick for the judge. Judge’s

decision is final.

COSTUME CLASS

The most creative dog(s) costume. Brace

team accepted – two dogs accepted as one

costume entry or most creative dog 4-H’er

costume depicting a theme. The theme may

be historical, humorous, cartoon, etc.

Costume may not be repeated year to year.

DRILL TEAM

Each team (4 or more 4-H members) will

perform within three to five minutes time

span. Creativity in music and props are

encouraged.

OBEDIENCE

1. Limit of two obedience classes per dog

per child.

2. A child and dog combination may only

enter the A or B section of any class.

3. Dogs fouling the obedience class ring will

receive no higher than a white ribbon.

4. Obedience classes (Novice A and B,

Graduate Novice, qualified in Novice at any
recognized trial. 
(UKC, AKC). Same exercises
as Sub Novice A 

Graduated Notice - For dogs that have

never qualified in Novice at any recognized

trail. (UKC, AKC). Same exercises as Sub

Novice A. 

Novice A - For dogs or  handlers who have

not earned a CD title (Companion dog title

awarded by organizations like AKC, UKC,

All American). On leash, heel and figure 8; Open A and B, Utility) will be based on American Kennel Club

Score Sheets. 

Sub Novice A - For first year members in

the obedience project. Dog and handler must

be in their first year enrollment in the dog

obedience project. Handler may not have

qualified with any dog in novice at any

show. Recall, Hell, Figure 8, Sit or Stand for

exam, Long Sit (1 minute), Long Down (2

minutes), are done on leash. 

Sub Novice B - For dogs that have never

off leash, stand for exam, heel, recall, long

sit-1 minute, long down (3 minutes). Limit

2 years in this class with the same dog and

handler.

Novice B - For dogs that do not have a CD title

or 4-H’ers having shown the same dog for

two years in Novice A. (Exercises same as

Novice A) 

Graduate Novice  - For dogs that have not

been qualified in open at a recognized trial.

(Exercises same as Novice A except there

will be a drop on recall and out of sight long

sit and down. On leash; stand for exam, heel,

figure 8, drop on recall, off leash-out of

sight – 3 minutes, out of sigh long down – 5

minutes.) 

Open - For dog that can perform open exercises

(AKC open exercises). Heel free and

figure 8, drop on recall, retrieve on flat,

retrieve over jump, broad jump, long sit-out

of sight – 3 minutes, long down-out of sight

exercises (AKC utility exercises). Signal

exercise, scent discrimination, directed

retrieve, moving stand and exam, directed

jumping. 5 minutes. 

 For dogs that can perform utility

4-H SHOWMANSHIP

1.   Open to all 4-H participants.

2.   Age listed as January 1, 2009.

3.   To be judge on (a) knowledge of breed

standard or the breed that a mixed dog most

resembles, (b) handler’s appearance and attitude,

(c) grooming, (d) individual handling,

(“L”, “T”; triangle or straight up and back),

(e) group exam.

4.   Participants are to show dog according to

breed or the breed the dog most resembles.

Beginner Division – For first year members

in the showmanship project. Dog and handler

must be in their first year of showmanship

and must have not shown in a showmanship

contest prior to January 1. Participants

who have shown in AKC or other sanctioned

Junior showmanship are not eligible for this

class. Handlers in this class may not enter

any other showmanship class.

Junior Division

– Handlers age 9, 10, and 11

Intermediate Division

– Handlers age 12, 13, and 14

Senior Division

– Handlers 15 years old and up

4-H AGILITY

1.   Open to all 4-H participants.

2.   Dog may wear collars in all class. Each

dog may be entered only in one class.

3.   Each exhibitor may walk their dogs

through the course on lead one time.

4.   Each exhibitor may enter 2 dogs. Each

dog may be entered only in one class.

5.   Exhibitors will be given time to walk

the course without dogs to develop their

running strategy.

Jump Heights

Will be adjusted for the size of the dog.

FAULTS

  • Pulling, tugging, aiding or hindering the dog
  • on the leash
  • Knock down poles
  • Missed contacts
  • On and off tables
  • Time over standard course time

CLASSES

AGILITY I

On-lead class. There are no competitive

placements in their class.

Course: Simple design, such as horseshoe or

“M” design (Obstacles: 6 obstacles).

AGILITY II

Off-lead class

Course: Figure 8 design or more difficult

(Obstacles: 13 or more obstacles)

RALLY

Novice A – Exercises performed on leash

owner/handler may not have earned an obedience/

Rally title.

Novice B – Exercises same as Novice.

Handler has earned obedience/Rally title.

Rally Advanced – Exercises are performed

off leash.
